New Windows 10 beta version has more Cortana, but still no Spartan,News

Windows 10 Download Build 10041

After teasing a few days ago that it’ll roll out faster updates to Windows 10 Insiders who want faster access to the newest features even if buggy, Microsoft on Wednesday released build 10041 of the upcoming operating system, which brings several improvements and features, but also includes some issues and inconsistencies that are yet to be ironed out. Most notably, Microsoft’s newest software initiative – a completely new browser meant to make Internet Explorer only a distant, painful memory – is not included in this build. As for Cortana, that’s a different story.

Previously available only to U.S.-based Insider, the virtual assistant is also available in the U.K., France, Italy, Germany and Spain in build 10041, The Register reports.
Other new features include “a new handwriting-recognition panel for pen users, Network fly-out menu that brings quick access to network settings, enhancements to the photos app including support for RAW image format OneDrive cloud storage, and changes to the Lock screen that’ll now show tips, tricks and beautiful imagery (at least for the U.S. and France).
The company has also brought new capabilities to the Internet Explorer rendering engine, though this still is IE, and not the sleeker Spartan browser Insiders might be eager to test.
The Register notes that there are some issues with the Start menu, which is now transparent making some things harder to read, and Start menu entries can be replaced with Store URLs. Other issues concern the virtual desktop, as the Alt-Tab shortcut and taskbar only cycle and show, respectively, apps in the current desktop.
Build 10041 is included in the “Fast” category of Windows 10 updates, so if you’re currently on the more stable “Slow” lane, you’ll probably have to wait to receive a new build.
More details about this Windows 10 build, including bug fixes and known issues the company is working on, are available at the source link.
